Just recently I had to cancel two sets of tickets for my daughter and I due to scheduling conflicts. One set with Southwest Airlines from San Diego to Tucson, the other with Virgin America from San Diego to San Francisco. Both the Southwest and Virgin tickets were purchased long in advance at discounted web prices.
With Southwest, the total fee for two tickets was$358. I canceled one day before the scheduled flight and was returned the entire amount to my account.
With Virgin American, the total fee for two tickets was $274.80. After deducting $75 for each ticket ( a total of $150) which was the penalty fee for canceling TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE, the balance left in my account was $124.80 or just 45% of my original fee.
Virgin America, this is just plane “Skyway Robbery”!
Moving forward, I’ll stick with trustworthy Southwest and enjoy cancellation policies that treat the customer fairly.
